Liberato and Giovannina Sardella - 50th Anniversary

- Liberato and Giovannina Sardella (Marinelli) celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary on April 27, 2007. They were joined by family and friends at a reception after they renewed their wedding vows at St. John Bosco Parish in Port Colborne, ON, Canada. Liberato and Giovannina are thankful for all the blessings that they have shared in 50 years.

JOHNNY SAX LAUNCHES MUSIC CD

- Johnny Sax from Castropignano launches a music CD in memory of his daughter Rita and in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a portion of the net proceeds to benefit breast cancer research.

On March 15, 2001 Giovanni Caperchione's life was changed forever. Breast cancer claimed the life of his daughter Rita at the young age of 38. She left behind three small children ages 3 to 10 who hoped they would have a future without cancer… more in Spotlight.

Isabella was born on February 12, 2007 at 9:46 a.m. and weighed 6lbs. 15 oz in St. Catharines, Canada. Fernanda Luciani Celebrates Her 90th Birthday!

- On November 11th we celebrated the 90th birthday of Fernanda Luciani di Sardella. Her husband Adelchi, children, Amedeo, Maria and Lina held a party in her honour with family and friends. After, 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren (another 2 on the way!), she still looks and feels, as young as ever. With surprised emotion, and joy at the celebration, Fernanda was so grateful and sincerely appreciative of all the friends and immediate family, nieces and nephews from close and afar. Alcina (Mary) D'ONOFRIO

- With deep sadness, the family of Alcina (nee Alfieri) D'Onofrio announces her peaceful passing at her home on Saturday, October 22, 2005 at the age of 83. She is reunited with her beloved husband Raffaele (Ralph) who passed in 2000. Forever remembered as a loving mother of Mary and Joe Capuano, Ines and Pasquale DeChellis, Rosanna and Tony Celi, John and Joy D'Onofrio, Mario D'Onofrio and Kim Olm, Rita and Ken Gibbs, Robert and Anna D'Onofrio, and David and Kathy D'Onofrio. She will be sadly missed by her 15 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Mrs. D'Onofrio was born in Castropignano, Italy on April 9, 1922. She came to Canada in 1952 where she settled with her family in Welland. Friends may call at J.J. - Simone (Sam) Marrone passed away at the Welland Hospital on Saturday May 28, 2005 in his 77th year. Dear brother of Anita Moccia (Silvestro) of Welland. He will be lovingly remembered by his nieces and nephews Dominic (Colleen) Marcoretta of Welland, Nicky (Jack) Enkelaar of Beamsville, Josie Simpson of Welland, John Moccia (Christine) of Fort Erie, Vince Grano of Thorold, Nick Marrone (Carmelina) of Italy, Italo Marrone (Phil) of England, Mario Marrone of England, Santino Marrone (Jackie) of California and many great nieces and great nephews. Predeceased by his brother Dominic Marrone, sister Pasqualina Macoretta, brother-in-law Gennaro Macoretta and niece Mary Grano. Simone was born in Castropignano, Italy and came to Welland in 1956. He worked at the Welland Hospital retiring in 1993. the family will receive their friends at J.J. PATTERSON & SONS, FUNERAL RESIDENCE 19 YOUNG STREET, WELLAND, ONTARIO on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm and on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. - Mario Paolone passed away in a car accident on Saturday April 9th, 2005 in Orange County, California . Mario was 60 years old and is survived by his wife Nina of 35 years, his two daughters Sandra, and Michelle, and his two grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends in United States, Canada, Italy, Argentina.

Roberto A. Ventresca Publishes Book!

- Title of Book: "From Fascism to Democracy: Culture and Politics in the Italian Election of 1948"

My name is Annie Ventresca and I would like to make an announcement (a bit late) about my brother, Roberto Ventresca. My mother is from Castropignano (Rita Ventresca, maiden name: SCIARRA). My oldest brother is currently a professor at the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario and wrote this book which was published in November 2003. After visiting the wonderful website, I decided to add this achievement of his to the site. One of the reviews that he had on this book described it as: "an articulate, intensely researched and dramatic love letter to his parents’ homeland..." (taken from www.uwo.ca/kings/alumni& foundation/herald/fall2004.pdf) Robs focus on Italian history comes from the connection that we have to Italy (specifically Castropignano and the small town of Torre Dei Nolfi--where my father is from, in Abruzzo).

Celebrated There 60th Anniversary
Date: December 31, 2002

-My Mother & Father Maria & Carmen D'Onofrio were both born in Castropigano and came to Canada about 50years ago. They have just celebrated there 60th Anniversary on December 31,2002. We had a huge celebration earlier in the month with a family gathering which included all 6 children , 16 grandchildren , 10 great grandchildren and all there spouses. Also, there was my fathers brother Pietro D'Onofrio & his wife Carmela, my fathers sister Nina Ranelli & her husband Romolo, and my fathers sister in-law Alcina D'Onofrio whom was married to my fathers late brother Ralfael D'Onofrio. As a special surprise, my mothers sister Consiglia Panunto flew in from Argentina to join in the celebration. They had not seen each other for quite a long time. My parents were both very happy and surprised. Also joining us were a few of my parents closest friends. At this time I wish both my parents many more years of happines and health.

-E' triste, dice un socio, ma purtroppo ti inviamo ancora una notizia di trapasso: è morta nella notte tra il 15 ed il 16 zia Rosa Meffe, vedova di Cristinziano Maddalena. Aveva compiuto 102 anni ed in paese era la persona più vecchia.
