He was 16 years old. My father Francesco Bottini visited Roccaspromente and Castropigano in 1950 will he was stationed in Germany. He spent a month with our family there. I visited the area for a day in June of 2006 and found the Bottini family still living there. It is a beautiful place and I must thank my two cousins Biago Brunetti and Pietro Sardella and my Zia Maria Bottini (nee Petti) for make the trip something to remember. I came to Canada in January 1964 with my mother Nicolia Marinelli and my sister Carmela Marinelli we were being reunited with my father Vittorio Marinell and my other sister Addolorata Marinelli. We arrived in Halifax on January 20, 1964, I still have the passport with a date stamp on it. It was grey and cold and we had another 2 to 3 days of train travel before reaching Toronto. We travelled by ship "The Saturnia" must have been on her last voyage across the Atlantic, it was the beginning when air travel was becoming more popular and economical. I have been back to Castropignano only once in 1993. I was sadned to it almost a ghost town, certainly not the way I remember it, nevertheless still very enchanting and picturesque little Italian village, lots of fresh air and happy people. I met with some people I knew when I grew up and my only cousin still living in town Maria Pizzacalla. I have so many stories to tell, but maybe in another message I will furnish you with more stories and pleasant memories. She was 18 when she left her family and her village by marrying an American soldier, Dudley Chase. Nineteen years later, in 1966, my mother returned to Italy for a visit accompanied by me. It's made of some ancient little houses in the heart of the middle-age centre of our town, in the place we call "Al Colle" or "Chiaie". The view on the Biferno valley is absolutely wonderfull, the forniture is the traditional one (wooden "com�" and hand-made towels and sheets). The atmosphere is really lovely. Every room has bathroom, shower, a little kitchen. The big stone-walls keep them always fresh in summer.
